Biography
Colin P. Smith, AIA
Colin Smith was born and raised in Syracuse, New York. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1993 and graduated with Distinction from RISD with Bachelors in Architecture in 1994 where he received the Henry Adams Medal, the school's highest academic honor. He interned with the award winning firms of Machado & Silvetti and Office dA. After graduating, Colin joined the practices of Robert Luchetti Associates and Kallmann McKinnell & Wood Architects, where he worked as project architect on numerous commercial, corporate, academic and institutional projects, such as The Walters Art Museum – Baltimore, Fidelity Investments – Boston, and Executive Education Center at Washington University – St. Louis.
After receiving his architectural license in 1999, Colin joined Margulies & Associates, where he was promoted to the position of associate. While at Margulies & Associates he worked as a senior designer and project manager on a wide range of projects including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts – Hingham, JAFCO Ventures, Intercontinental Real Estate Headquarters and Oxford Bioscience Partners.
In 2002, Colin founded Colin Smith Architecture, Inc., an architecture and planning firm located in Lexington, Massachusetts. Current projects include the design of custom homes and renovations, corporate interiors, retail and commercial office buildings in the Boston Metropolitan area.
In addition to his professional practice, Colin currently serves on Lexington Design Advisory Committee (chair from 2005–2009) and is currently Chairman of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce. He has taught design and drawing studios at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Boston Architectural Center where he was an adjunct faculty member and thesis advisor respectively.
Colin is registered as an architect in Massachusetts and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. He is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects and the Boston Society of Architects.

Ian Hurlburt
Ian Hurlburt was born in Taylor, Texas and raised in South Portland, Maine. He entered the architectural field while still in high school, interning with several architectural and planning offices. Since graduating from RISD with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts, he has completed several architectural design competitions, is an established painter and published poet. He has also taught building technology seminars, served as studio critic and teaching assistant at RISD. With more than fourteen years of design experience throughout New England, Ian is currently pursuing his architectural licensure in Massachusetts.
Ian joined Colin Smith Architecture in 2007 as design architect on numerous residential & commercial projects. Ian's range of design abilities allow him to work freely between large commercial projects, historic residential renovations down to furniture design. With his expertise in residential architecture and commercial interior architecture, Ian will be recognized by the National Kitchen and Bath Association as a Certified Kitchen and Bath designer.
His work reflects the firm's design process and philosophy by focusing on modern approaches and classic inspiration to create smart sensible places for living and working.
Hannah Levine
Hannah Levine was born and raised in Lexington, MA. She began drawing houses at age 7 and is fortunate to have fulfilled her lifelong dream of working in the field of architecture. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 2008. Hannah worked at Burt Hill's Boston office as a junior designer on various interior office fit out projects.
Hannah spent six months studying architecture abroad at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. Her studies focused on the Bauhaus architecture of Tel Aviv and contemporary planning issues in the city of Jerusalem.
For two months Hannah lived in a straw-bale built shelter at Kibbutz Lotan, Israel. She enriched her knowledge of sustainable design and agriculture, and received a certificate in Permaculture Design in the Green Apprenticeship Training Program. As part of ongoing community development, she built earthen plastered structures integrated with alternative materials and discarded objects.
Hannah joined Colin Smith Architecture in 2009 as a designer and project manager for several retail boutiques and residential projects.
